COP26 is a fortnight-long climate change conference beginning on 31st October. And your business can get involved. Even if you haven’t started preparing yet, it’s not too late to join in with #COP26. This is one of the most crucial events of our time, running from 31st of October to the 12th of November 2021.
What is it?
COP26 is the 2021 United Nations climate change conference, and it will be a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change. The UN brings together almost every country on earth for global climate meetings called COPs, which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’.
Where is it?
This year it is happening primarily in Glasgow and there are some events in Italy. However, there will be many virtual events and broadcasts which you can follow from your desk.
Why does it matter?
Climate change is already happening. Around the world storms, floods and wildfires are intensifying, decimating communities and causing widespread suffering. As well as dramatic weather events, there are silent killers too like air and water pollution, which affect the health of millions of people. Businesses all around the world are stepping up their efforts to curb their emissions and run greener companies that support people, planet and profit. Collaboration between businesses and governments worldwide can help to limit climate change so it’s vital that every business, no matter how small or large, get involved.
Tackling climate change seems like an impossibly high mountain to climb. But really there is no alternative, as the saying goes “there is no planet B.” The rewards of working together will be cleaner air, job creation, protecting and restoring nature. Aside from the climate benefits, consumers now demand better from the businesses they support. This also applies to employees who want to work for organisations that are actively working towards sustainability. Dealing with climate change can mean economic growth, stability and a world where everyone thrives.
